Training Design and Delivery

Training Design and Development are the next stages of training, leading on from the Training Requirement Specification (TRS), the Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and the subsequent TNA Report. Once again, the methodology of the Australian Defence Force Publication (ADFP) 7.0.2 The Defence Training Model (DTM) is utilised. These two activities require a range of different skill sets with key learning and assessment strategies critical to successful outcomes. Nova has a large cadre of personnel who hold a ‘Certificate IV in Training and Assessment’ and are experienced in the Design and Development of training. Several of these personnel are also accomplished University level lecturers that regularly conduct training design modules, and develop Education programs at the Tertiary level.

Design – The design stage is primarily applied for new training activities and consists of the following nine major processes:

  • Analyse Learners,
  • Analyse Learning Environments,
  • Analyse Competencies,
  • Generate Learning Outcomes,
  • Design Assessment Strategy,
  • Design Training Strategy and produce the training and assessment strategy document/s,
  • Compile Curriculum,
  • Design Training Review and Evaluation strategies, and
  • Compile a Draft Training Management Package (TMP).

Development – The develop stage builds on from the Design stage’s major output, the Draft TMP.  It essentially captures the training materials, equipment and other resources that are required to conduct, assess and evaluate the training. Development culminates in the conduct of a ‘Pilot’ course and if successful, the final approval of the Training Management Package. Development of training has four processes:

  • Checking existing training materials and equipment,
  • Obtaining training materials and equipment,
  • Preparing major training resources, and
  • Piloting the training.
